I used a wide rubber flapper type exhale valve that protruded from the filter inlet stem. However unlike the German Gummischutzmaske, the MK. Like the German Gummischutzmaske, the Navy Mark I was also issued in a similar metal carrying canister. This allowed for a high level of protection and comfort while allowing for a greater level of mobility (compared to other US gas masks in use at the time).
